Terms of Service
Last updated: October 24, 2026
The short version: be 13+, be decent, and remember that your Palavers and margin notes are public. Break the house rules and you can be removed.
These Terms are an agreement between you and Walking Visuals LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company ("Walking Visuals", "we", "us"), which owns and operates Palavr™. They govern your use of the Palavr app and this website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use Palavr.
1. Who can use Palavr
You must be at least 13 years old to use Palavr. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Palavr only with a parent or guardian's involvement. By using the Service you confirm you meet these requirements.
2. Your account
You're responsible for your account and for keeping your login secure. You choose a public @username; don't impersonate others or pick a handle you don't have the right to use. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.
3. Conversations are public
Palavr is a spectating product. Palavers and margin notes are public by design — other people can read, Watch, and share them, and there is no end-to-end encryption. Don't post anything in a Palaver that you wouldn't want seen, saved, or shared.
4. The house rules
Keep Palavr worth watching. You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully, or incite violence against anyone.
- Post hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise unlawful content, or content that sexualizes minors.
- Share others' private information, impersonate people, or deceive.
- Spam, scam, or manipulate the Lobby, counts, or rankings.
- Break the law, infringe others' rights, or post content you don't have the right to post.
- Disrupt or abuse the Service, or attempt to access it in unauthorized ways.
There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users on Palavr. You can block anyone and report content or people in the app, or email safety@palavrapp.com. We review reports promptly and act on violations — removing content, restricting features, or banning accounts — and we notify the reporter of the outcome.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you create. By posting on Palavr, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the Service — which, given Palavr's nature, includes making it viewable and shareable by Watchers.
You can edit your messages while you're a Pal in their Palaver, delete your messages, leave a Palaver and remove your messages in it, or remove your messages everywhere when you delete your account. Once you leave a Palaver, you can't edit the messages you kept there. You can still delete them one at a time from the Palaver's Watcher view while it's live, or by emailing privacy@palavrapp.com if it isn't or you can't open it. Limits may apply to prevent abuse, but never to deleting your account. This license ends when your content is removed, except for copies others have already saved or shared and copies we keep as described in our Privacy Policy, including private copies of removed or edited-away text kept for moderation and safety. If you delete your account and choose to keep your messages, the license continues for those messages until they are removed.
Margin notes belong to the people who write them. If a Palaver closes because its last Pal leaves, it is removed 30 days later, and the margin notes in it are removed with it.
6. Our intellectual property
Palavr itself belongs to us. Walking Visuals LLC owns the Service and everything we put into it — the software and source code, the design and brand system, the Palavr name and wordmark, and the look and feel. These Terms give you permission to use Palavr; they don't transfer any ownership or license in it to you.
You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, or build a competing or derivative service from any part of Palavr, and you may not use the Palavr name or wordmark without our written permission. Palavr is an unregistered trademark of Walking Visuals LLC.
Your content stays yours — see section 5.
7. Moderation & termination
We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or terminate accounts that break these Terms or the house rules, or to protect the Service and the people who use it. You can delete your account at any time, from the app (your profile → Settings → Delete account) or as described at palavrapp.com/delete-account, including if we have restricted or banned it. Deleting your account doesn't undo a ban, and it doesn't remove records we keep under our Privacy Policy.
Moderation is human review of reports, not real-time or automated, so content may be visible before it's reviewed. Blocking someone hides their content from you; it doesn't remove it for everyone.
Appeals. If you think we got a moderation decision wrong, including a ban, email safety@palavrapp.com with the subject "Appeal", your @username, and what you'd like us to look at again. A person will review it.
8. Copyright complaints (DMCA)
Respect other people's copyright on Palavr, and we'll respect yours. If you believe something on Palavr infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to act for, email a written notice to legal@palavrapp.com with the subject "DMCA notice". It must include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the copyrighted work you say is infringed;
- the material you say is infringing and where it is on Palavr (for example the @username, the Palaver, and the message), in enough detail for us to find it;
- your name, postal address, telephone number, and email address;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
When we receive a complete notice, we may remove or disable access to the material, and we'll make reasonable efforts to tell the person who posted it.
Counter-notice. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can email a counter-notice to legal@palavrapp.com with the subject "DMCA counter-notice". It must include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the material that was removed and where it appeared before it was removed;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification; and
- your name, postal address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you're outside the United States, any judicial district in which Walking Visuals LLC may be found), and that you'll accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice, or their agent.
If we receive a valid counter-notice, we may restore the material after 10 to 14 business days, unless the person who sent the original notice tells us they've filed a court action to stop the infringement.
Repeat infringers. We may terminate the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe others' copyrights.
Knowingly making false claims in a notice or counter-notice can make you liable for damages.
9. The Service "as is"
Palavr is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content posted by others is accurate or appropriate. You use Palavr at your own discretion and risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Walking Visuals LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which is currently zero — Palavr is free) or one hundred US dollars.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, ask you to re-accept in the app. Continuing to use Palavr after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina, and you and we each consent to those courts' jurisdiction.
